Things That Cause Insomnia - The Top 4 Sleep Killers

Are you having rude awakenings in the middle of your peaceful nights sleep? Whether they be horrible dreams, body parts that have gone numb, or a whole hay stack of things, they are bad for your health.

Lack of sleep can cause so many mental and physical health issues. Many already know that part, but one of the many asked questions floating around include; What Causes Lack of Sleep? Or Insomnia?

Here are the top 4 reasons that most of us lose a good nights sleep:

1) Anxiety

Research has shown that 'worry warts' tend to lose the most sleep. Are you a person who goes through the next days grocery list while thinking about your next work deadline when you should be asleep? Stressing out about anything can not only cause you to have major sleep disturbances through out the night, but it can also cause you stay up.

It becomes an endless cycle, and starts to effect you through the rest of your life. Simmer down a bit before bedtime and kill those silly stressed out thoughts before you hit the pillow. This will help you avoid not sleeping because your 'thinking to much'.

2) Technology

Televisions, ipods, cell phones, computers, and any other sort of interactive entertainment should be off limits in the bedroom. Night time is no time for these gadgets that please us so much, and studies show that they actually prevent our minds and bodies from getting ready to sleep.

By using these possessions, we are telling our body that it needs to be awake when it should be asleep, which essentially trains our body to stay awake during those hours. It is much better to read a book, which will tire your eyes out effectively and keep you from stressing out before you go to sleep. If you have to have something else, try watching a movie you have seen a bajillion times.

3) Workaholic

Another big bedtime killer is working right before you go to bed. Whether you are a hard working laborer, or a talented online entrepenuer, you need to take some time away from your work! I know you love making money and staying busy, but you need your rest. You also need to take a break from your work before you go to bed.

Just because your arms hurt or your eyes are tired, does not mean your body is ready to sleep. Take a hot bath, or get into a ritual of watching an old favorite movie a couple of hours before you run to the sack.

4) Early to Bed, Early to Rise

They say that when you go to bed you wake up earlier. This is generally true, however, did you know that going to bed before the sun goes down can take away from your well needed beauty rest? So can getting up before it is light outside. Our bodies are naturally in tune with the sky above, wanting to sleep when it is dark and be awake when it is light. Not only that, but it takes time to both go to sleep and wake up fully.

This means that if it does not get dark until 8pm, your body will not be ready to sleep for several more hours. Doctors suggest that you go to sleep when you are drowsy and to give your self a scheduled time to wake up every morning. This will give your body a better rhythm and help keep you from tossing and turning throughout the night.
