The challenge of insomnia affects many people around the world. Doctors and health professionals are really pushing for the public to be informed of the health risks of not sleeping. More and more men and women are being diagnosed with Insomnia, or other mental health diseases linked with insomnia.

We already know that insomnia can lead to major health issues and personal and social problems. For those of you who have been actively searching for the cure that will hopefully be found, let’s talk about ways you can help yourself in the mean time.

There are mountains of pills to take, and so many suggestions out there. Even with that thought in mind, many individuals who have troubles sleeping would rather wade the muddy waters of sleeplessness than risk dependency on a drug or habit.

Because of that, we will go over some simple things you can do to insure you get a good nights sleep .

1. Do Something Relaxing Before Bed

It has been proven that when you do things that require strength of mind or body, that you train your body to stay awake and be active. Things like watching television, dancing, internet surfing, talking on the phone, doing chores, exercising or just generally staying active can keep you up. Instead, try something from this list to get you worn down:

a) Read a Good Book
b)Put in a Movie you've seen a hundred times
c) Take a Hot Bath
d) Get in Bed 2 Hours before you need to be asleep

Avoid things like:
*Eating
*Exercising
*Watching New Shows
*Thinking too Much!

2. Make Sure Your Comfy

Studies have shown that a persons comfort level at night make a huge difference on the quality of sleep they get at night. A lumpy old mattress with springs poking out will not let you get a good deep sleep, and neither will a cold draft or bad posture. Make sure your comfortable at night! Your body should naturally want to relax when it lays on a mattress, and if your mattress is just upsetting you, you need a new one!

Try some of these simple tips to make sure you are comfy:

a) Get some Extra Pillows
b) Get Brand New Pillows
c) Stick a nice pillow Between your legs when you sleep on your side
d) Get an Extra Blanket

Helpful Hint* Making sure your spin is aligned and supported well will help you sleep better and stay asleep. This is where using a pillow under your arms, legs and neck will greatly benefit you. Try using extra pillows in new places and see what works best.

3. Get A Ritual

Creating healthy bed time habits never hurt anyone. Doing things to get ready for bed can help a lot more than you think. Try these for starters:

a) Take a Hot Bath
b) Brush your teeth, go to the bathroom, brush your hair, things of that nature
c) Set your clothes out for the next day
d) Count Sheep
e) Put cool art on your ceiling to stare at and wear your eyes out
f) Listen to soft music
4. Stop Thinking!

One of the major causes of lack of sleep is over thinking anything while you are trying to be asleep. Your body may be relaxed, but your mind is still wide awake and stressing out over something. Figure out how to kill that little voice in your head and you will get much better sleep.
