Your Television Viewing Might Keep You Awake
Television And Insomnia
Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep for a length of time. There has been much research to whether television plays an affect on insomnia. Television stimulates the mind and can cause adrenaline rushes when something exciting or scary is on the screen.
Adrenaline, which is a chemical in the brain, makes it hard to shut the brain down and relax for sleep.
Television can impact a person's mood, emotions, or outlook. If you watch a scary movie, it could leave you wired, scared to fall asleep, or lead to bad dreams which would make falling asleep after waking hard. You could lay in bed recalling the shows or movies you had spent hours watching.
Spending time before bed doing relaxing, less stimulating things could make falling asleep easier. Reading a magazine, taking a long bath, or just spending quality time for family are some of the easiest ones to do.
Enjoying a board game or taking a short walk could be just the relaxation you need. Nothing will work for everyone, people enjoy many different things.
Some people can be calmed by television shows. They may not suffer insomnia due to television but are relaxed into sleep by it. Again, there is no one right or wrong way for a single person.
Whether television affects insomnia or not is still up to much debate. Choosing to spend less time in front of the television or doing so earlier in the day could very well lead to more peaceful sleep.
