Eating To Cure Insomnia

Imagine the last time you enjoyed a leisurely dinner with a decadent dessert of tasty chocolate cake and 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream. Now, you decided to watch your favorite crime drama before you tried to fall asleep.

Did you have a hard time falling asleep? Did you toss and turn until you gave up finding a comfortable position? If the answer is yes than you may suffer from insomnia because of the food you eat.

If you tend to enjoy heavy, greasy foods such as beef burgers topped with yellow onions, green peppers, and double pickles your body may find it hard to digest the food and your body responds by interfering with your natural sleep pattern.

Remember, you can still enjoy a beef burger but you may want to choose 97% percent lean beef and substitute the yellow onions and green peppers with light herbs and seasonings for flavor. Also, drink an 8oz glass of water with your burger to aid your digestive system.

Preferably drink water before you eat as this will help with digestion plus it will also help with portion size as drinking water can curb your appetite.

Once done eating dinner we all look forward to dessert. That chocolate cake and ice cream is heavy so your body takes a long time to digest it which can affect your ability to sleep.

Either divide your standard piece of cake in half with 1 scoop of ice cream or choose to eat a few pieces of chocolate candy which should satisfy your sugar cravings. All in all if you can cut down on this you will be better off.

Fruits - one fruit that has a good reputation with helping with insomnia is lemon.

Milk – a good old glass of warm milk has been known to help when it comes to falling asleep the reason is due to a chemical which is found in milk. This chemical becomes active once the milk is heated.

Our bodies are flexible and can accept adjustments so make sure you adjustment your diet slightly to help minimize your insomnia.
